Grape variety: Schiava (Vernatsch)
The Vernatsch grapes of the Phyllit from the Liquid Stone line grow in an ancient, terraced vineyard in Plars di Sopra near Lagundo, in the northwestern part of South Tyrol, right at the entrance to the Venosta valley. This vineyard is the highest located (650 m above sea level) and is home to the oldest vines (60–70 years) from this line. Here, deep-rooted vines thrive on light slate-gneiss soils, producing small, aromatic Vernatsch grapes without irrigation or fertilization. The altitude of the vineyard reveals the elegant and cool side of this grape variety. The grapes are fermented in wooden vats on the skins, followed by a nine-month maturation in barrels.Phyllit impresses with its elegance and smoky finesse, its low alcohol content, its robust tannins, and its surprisingly well-structured and long finish. The distinctly high acidity adds tension and freshness.
