Grape variety: Schiava (Vernatsch)
The vineyard for the Granit of the Liquid Stone line is one of the few in South Tyrol, with soils primarily composed of the very hard volcanic rock granite. The steep vineyard is located at the entrance of the Ultimo Valley, above Lana in the small village of “Gegend”.
The south-facing vines benefit from warm rays of sunshine, which are advantageous despite the rather airy and cool climate shaped by the winds of the Adige and the Ultimo valleys. These 35-year-old Vernatsch vines are densely planted with 5,000 plants per hectare, contributing to the wine's quality. The small-berried grapes ferment in wooden vats on the skins and are then allowed to age for nine months in wooden barrels.
An expressive and complex wine, whose fruity and spicy aromas are perfectly accentuated by numerous crisp tannins. The Granit shows us how versatile Schiava can be, presenting what it has to offer: structure, body, and tannins.
